Ice-uh koh-hee, kudusai.

Today I had to leave the capsule hotel at 0930 and met my buddy Dan at Omiya, about 40 minutes away in Saitana prefecture.

It’s only about 30 degrees celcius here but the humidity is 80-90% and it was seriously brutal today. Especially carrying a massive suitcase around. I ended up changing my t-shirt three times.

On the way to Dan’s house from the station I got the japanese equivalent of popcorn chicken for about 80p. It was alright. Then we went into the town centre and to Mister Coffee where their mascot, Pon de Lion, was a lion with a cruller for a mane.

Mister Donut

We got gyudon, which is pretty much just a bowl of steamed rice with super thin slices of beef over the top. It was incred. Then we hit the Coccoon mall in the next town along from Omiya, where there was a furniture shop that had fish tanks out the back with puppies and a kitten in. I don’t know how much a chihuahua costs back home but they were £500 out here. Let me know if you want me to bring you one back.

Chihuahua

Look at his little face.

After failing to get anyone to accept my traveller’s cheques, I played some Bobble Bobble at an arcade and bought some Sapporo from an off-license. Then we met Dan’s pals for some Hiroshima-style ‘Okonomiyaki’. It’s like a weird sandwich where noodles, beef and salad are cooked between a pancake and a fried egg with barbecue sauce over it. I ate half of it but it was amazing.

Then we went to Hub, a japanese ‘english pub’. On the way there I’m pretty sure I ran over a cat on my bike, or at least a really huge rat.
